Watch: Sonic Supercut Of The Sounds From ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope’

Star Wars With half a year to go until "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" arrives, there will undoubtedly be no shortage of re-visits to the previous films, and discussions about most elements of the new film’s aesthetics. But it’s hard to debate that sound designer Ben Burtt was an integral success to George Lucas’ franchise, creating the sonic texture that would stoke a generation of imaginations in "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope." And a new, quick, two-minute supercut highlights his work.

Rishi Kaneria has cut this together and it’s pretty mesmerizing stuff. One quickly comes to understand the task Burtt had ahead of him. It wasn’t just creating the sound of lightsabers swooshing or the X-wings flying through the air, but countless bits of mechanical, futuristic objects too. It’s fun and fascinating so check it out below.
