Watch: See The Setting Of Wes Anderson’s ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ Recreated With 50,000 Lego Bricks

Wes Anderson, Grand Budapest Hotel

Two of the most talked about movies of the year have been Wes Anderson‘s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and Phil Lord and Chris Miller‘s ‘The Lego Movie,” so it makes perfect sense that, to celebrate the DVD and Blu-ray release of the former, that we’d get some combination of the two. Yesterday, a cryptic email arrived teasing some kind of plastic-brick related “Grand Budapest Hotel” reveal, and while it’s not the official tie-in set that some were hoping for, the results are pretty cool nevertheless.

Fox Searchlight have persuaded Lego master model builder Ryan Ziegelbauer and his team to build a reconstruction of the setting for Wes Anderson’s latest, and the video below shows it’s construction, and the finished product. According to a press release, they “spent 575 hours building and designing the replica of the exquisite hotel. To construct the model, more than 50,000 certified Lego bricks from collectors and wholesalers were sourced from Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Germany, Italy and 14 different states in the U.S. The final model will weigh approximately 150 pounds and stand 7 feet tall and 6.5 feet wide.”

The final model will apparently be on display at the Grove in L.A, while the film hits DVD next Tuesday, June 17th. Take a look at the clip below, and if you need extra incentive, here’s our interview with Wes Anderson from the film’s release.
