With "The Host" arriving in just over a month and the chatter around it has remained…minimal, certainly far less than what was launched upon Stephenie Meyer's previous YA hit, "Twilight," the marketing has changed gears. In the fall, we got the very tweeny version of the trailer, that was clearly geared to a certain demographic, and now we have a more action-oriented spot for everyone else. But yeah, still looks kinda whatever.
The sci-fi story centers on the young Melanie Stryder (played by Saoirse Ronan), who gets her brain implanted by aliens, so they can use her to guide them to the leader of the resistance, but Melanie's brain fights back or something. And then she runs into Anonymous Handsome J. Crew Model #B-908Z, starts having emotionz and suddenly there's some reflective badass vehicles chasing them in the desert or something. No, we don't understand this either, but the bottom line is, it's another genre effort with a tortured romance at the center, with Diane Kruger looking pretty fine. While the goodwill in the hourglass of director Andrew Niccol is quickly running out, it's at least somewhat in his sci-fi wheelhouse. And it can't be worse than "In Time"…can it?
Watch below and take your sister when it opens on March 29th.
Saw it just yesterday. It's so confusing and ridiculous that not even the script can keep up with it.
