This weekend, Samuel L. Jackson wears a baseball cap sideways and unfolds some evil schemes in "Kingsman: The Secret Service." In "Big Game," he fights for his life wearing a finely tailored suit. However the real hero of the story is just a kid, as they both try to survive in the Finnish mountains. A new trailer for the film has arrived today.
Directed by Jalmari Helander ("Rare Exports") and featuring Jim Broadbent, Ray Stevenson, and Felicity Huffman, this constantly eye-winking picture is a pure B-movie. The film follows the President of the United States who gets shot out of the sky as part of an elaborate kidnapping scheme, and is forced to rely on a plucky 13-year-old boy who is out in the woods in the midst of a manly rite of passage. It’s all kinds of ridiculous, and the movie knows it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it works.
"Big Game" opens in the U.K. on May 8th. No U.S. date yet. [Empire]
Rare Exports was a great fun genre film and Onni Tommila one of the best things in it so i`am seeing it,will it be more than a fun B movie probably not but sometimes dumb and fun is better than worthy and pretentious …
Even though I am Finnish, I think this looks terrible. The landscapes pretend to be from northern Finland but the film was shot in Germany, so to begin with, I can\’t view it as plausible by any means. Second, the trailer is edited like it was marketing a Tarantino film, and the supposed villain looks awfully much like Hans Gruber from Die Hard, which is embarrassing. Third, Finland is not a country of great cinema (ever heard of Aki Kaurismäki? The only Finnish filmmaker you should know, if you\’re into that sorta stuff.) How do I prove this? Well, the Jussi-award (they\’re like the Finnish Oscars, y\’know) for Best Picture went to a film that got only 3059 viewers at the movie theaters last year. Yes, that\’s how bad things are in here.
