So, how mega early is this three minute red band trailer for "About Last Night"? The movie doesn't come out until next year. In fact, there isn't even an official still for this, and yet, Sony is opening the gates on this way way, way early in the hopes that this spot is funny enough that it'll stay in your mind for a while. And does it succeed on that front? Not particularly.
A remake of Edward Zwick's 1986 film starring Demi Moore and Rob Lowe (which itself is based on the David Mamet play, "Sexual Peversity In Chicago") the template is familiar, focusing on good looking people, going through the ups and downs of modern love and life. This time around, it's been rebooted with all black cast, and everyone is certainly charming enough. Tonally, the film moves from the manic energy of Kevin Hart (who we love, though he seems to be a bit out of place here) to the low key charm of Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant. It's pleasant enough, but again, we're not quite sure why it warranted a trailer this early, other than for a quick Valentine's Day tie in.
Anyway, the Steve Pink ("Hot Tub Time Machine") directed, Leslye Headland ("Bachelorette") penned flick will land on Februay 14, 2014. Watch below.
How disappointing…not one ounce of real dialogue…real people don't talk like that, only "reel" people.
