Plus 5 New Images From the Film Starring Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly And Anthony Mackie
There’s no doubt about it. DreamWorks already believes in “Real Steel” with work already starting on a sequel, but the question is, will the rest of us care. And with the first full-length trailer for the film arriving today, it looks like it’s gonna be a huge crowd pleaser.
Starring Hugh Jackman, “Real Steel” is a boxing drama set in the near future where 2,000-pound robots do battle in the ring while controlled by iPad-like devices by human handlers. But more specifically, the film is about a father-son (Dakota Goyo playing the kid) team training an unusual robot to win a boxing championship after Jackman’s fall from glory as an actual human boxer. They essentially train an “Iron Giant“-like throwaway robot to boxing glory in what is a “Rocky” story told with Transformers. More or less. On the one hand, the emotional stuff looks ridiculously corny — we’re supposed to root for a robot? — but on the other, the special effects look quite good. Anthony Mackie, Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn and Olga Fonda round out the cast for a film that looks at best like some decent popcorn entertainment with a bit more heft than usual.
“Real Steel” opens on October 7th. Check out the trailer below.
Any thoughts on the new hugh jackman film Real Steel trailer? http://bit.ly/mA98M9
that thing looks pretty terrible.
When an actor is starring on a hit tv show ( especially an extremely pop-culture tv program, like \’ Lost \’ ) , the actor or actress should be pursuing star-making lead or supporting film roles with commercial films or well-regarded indie films ( it is better to do both ) – the best examples are George Clooney & Katherine Heigl ( mostly lousy commercial films ) . Because Evangeline Lilly didn\’t do this ( and she is dealing with a very competitive landscape for actresses ) , I don\’t expect her to reach the A-list for movie actresses- plus, Ms. Lilly is not a distinct actress. You have to strike while the iron is hot , baby.
P.S. Elizabeth Mitchell gave the best performance on \’ Lost \’. Now, that is a lady deserves great film career.
After Lost began, I thought Evangeline Lilly had a promising career ahead of her but she has barely done anything in the last seven years.
I hope she does more mainstream films from now on. She is an underrated actress and should have joined the A-list years ago.
