Watch: Promo Reel For TIFF Flick ‘Half Of A Yellow Sun’ Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor & Thandie Newton Plus New Pics

nullThere’s going to be a lot of Chiwetel Ejiofor coming your way by the end of the year. Next month he’ll star in the drama “Savannah” opposite Jim Caviezel, which opens in limited release, and of course he’s the lead in the Oscar touted “12 Years A Slaveheaded to TIFF. But the actor has another film coming to Toronto as well, and instead of more images, a lengthy promo reel has arrived.

Half Of A Yellow Sun” finds Ejiofor co-starring opposite Thandie Newton in the adaptation of the bestselling (and Orange Prize for Fiction-winning) novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, set against the backdrop of the 1967-1970 Nigerian-Biafran war. Here’s the official synopsis:

An epic love story: Olanna and Kainene are glamorous twins, living a privileged city life in newly independent 1960s Nigeria. The two women make very different choices of lovers, but rivalry and betrayal must be set aside as their lives are swept up in the turbulence of war.

The cast is rounded out by Dominic Cooper, “Game of Thrones” star Joseph Mawle and “Attack the Block” breakout actor John Boyega with Biyi Bandele at the helm. All the awards for Ejiofor? Either way, we’re just happy to get this much of him all at once. Watch below.

  2. I'm very happy that "Half of a Yellow Sun" has at last a film issue. I loved in fact this novel that moved me substantially. I am a great admirer of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie who is really a potent and very interesting writer. I do hope that this film will come out on normal distribution circuits because I intend absolutely to watch it.

  3. Finally, Chiwetel has deservedly come onto the mainstream. I first saw him in "Dirty Pretty Things" and in 'The Armistard" over ten years ago and I wondered then why he wasn't known. Now I see that you can keep quality down forever. Also noteworthy that Chimamanda arrived on the cinema screen.
