Got a Tip?

Watch: Paul Rudd Jumps Into Action In New Trailer For Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’

Ant-ManThis summer, an unlikely actor is becoming a franchise superhero: Paul Rudd. Probably best known for his comedic roles in films like "The 40 Year-Old Virgin," "Role Models," "Anchorman," and more, the actor has show some dramatic chops before (Neil LaBute‘s underrated "The Shape Of Things," for example). But Marvel‘s "Ant-Man" will likely provide a chance for Rudd to get both silly and serious, in a movie that’s certainly the biggest he’s ever made in his career. Some aspects of the production were new to the actor, others not so much.

“It was a new experience as far as the motion-capture-suit-ness of it,” Rudd said to EW. “But none of it feels that different. Every part, I’m pretending to be somebody I’m not. It’s all just a big lie!”

However, the big questions left to be answered is if Marvel made a mistake splitting from the film’s original director, Edgar Wright, over creative differences, and if this picture can perform at the blockbuster levels everyone now expects from the comic book studio.  Perhaps this new trailer will provide an answer.

  1. Oh, you guys. Remember that movie Iron Man, which mixed humor with serious tone? I think that movie might have gone on to launch some kind of multi-trillion dollar franchise or something, I kinda forget right now. Anyway, you want to be small so nobody knows you\’re there. Duh. And so you can get that cheeto crumb you dropped behind the baseboard. And ship yourself first class mail to any world destination for under $15 inside, taking all the comforts of home along with you.

  2. I guess we should be thankfully it\’s not another rehash (I mean reboot) — but this comic stuff is getting awfully old, especially since there never seems to be any real stakes.

  3. Yeah, I dunno. Last year I said Guardians would be Marvel\’s first bomb and I was obviously wrong. But I\’m gonna say it again here. I mean the comedy looks ok, like the train scene at the end but I find it hard to have it both ways. Either it\’s a serious the world is gonna end tone or like Guardians, a wink wink, this is just a fun film tone. And I guess it doesn\’t help at all that not having read any comic books, I just don\’t understand the suit. Why would you want to be small? My not a suit that just makes you have super strength at your normal size or better yet, make you bigger. The tiny actions scenes seem kinda dumb to me.

  4. Oh dear. Like the first trailer, this one seems to struggle with tone. That "I want you to break into a place and steal some stuff" line should be laugh out loud, but here it\’s just sort of mildly amusing.
