Watch: Oscar Isaac And Jessica Chastain Want Respect In New Trailer For ‘A Most Violent Year’

A Most Violent Year1981 was the most violent year on record in New York City, but for one couple moving up the ladder and trying to live the American Dream, that would have been the least of their worries. A brand new trailer for J.C. Chandor‘s "A Most Violent Year," starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain, has arrived, and it looks rock-solid.

Beautifully set to Marvin Gaye‘s "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)," the story follows an immigrant working his way to the top while trying to dodge corruption and attacks on his business from all sides. But it seems even he can’t avoid the moral plague that has set upon the city, while the woman by his side makes her own maneuvers to stay ahead of the game. Here’s the official synopsis:

A MOST VIOLENT YEAR is a searing crime drama set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically the most dangerous year in the city’s history. From acclaimed writer/director J.C. Chandor, and starring Oscar Isaac (INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS) and Jessica Chastain (ZERO DARK THIRTY), this gripping story plays out within a maze of rampant political and industry corruption plaguing the streets of a city in decay.

J.C. Chandor’s third feature examines one immigrant’s determined climb up a morally crooked ladder, where simmering rivalries and unprovoked attacks threaten his business, family, and – above all – his own unwavering belief in the righteousness of his path. With A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, Chandor journeys in a bold new direction, toward the place where best intentions yield to raw instinct, and where we are most vulnerable to compromise what we know to be right.

Co-starring David Oyelowo, Alessandro Nivola, and Albert Brooks, "A Most Violent Year" arrives on December 31st. Watch below.

  1. Bummer. I am not feeling it. The teaser trailer was far more interesting. The full trailer comes across like warmed over, bargain basement, small ball Scorcese.

Everything about this feels like one of the those dark horse Oscar hopefuls that (in theory) should find awards love but actually isn\’t firing on all cylinders and gets mixed reviews.

  2. Based on the trailer alone, this film could be one of the best of 2015. Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain as couple in this film, is just genius casting. I can already she the chemistry between them in the trailer alone. Really looking forward to this one.

  3. Oh my God, this looks like a masterpiece for the ages. Both Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain are clearly tremendous, but Jesus Christ, Jessica Chastain obviously gives her greatest performance to date – and that says a lot. The way she says "It wasn\’t your good luck helping you out all these years… It was me!" is just… God, this woman is almost insanely talented. She\’s just the best of the best out there.
