Okay, this isn't the full short film that will be unspooled at the Venice Film Festival in a few weeks, but it's a good taste of what's to come. Yes, Nicolas Winding Refn has directed an ad for the fragrance Gucci Premiere and yes, it stars Blake Lively.
This 30 second clip is pretty much like any other perfume ad you'll ever see, with Lively looking glamorous and expensive and walking around and whatever. Since they hired Refn for this gig, we hope in the actual short film, he'll get to show off his chops a bit more. In case you're wondering, this was shot at the Sheats Goldstein Residence in Beverly Hills (aka Jackie Treehorn's house from "The Big Lebowski") and no, your ears don't deceive you, that is M83 "Midnight City (Eric Prydz Private Remix)."
The full short will premiere on Saturday, September 1st at 8 PM in Venice. But surely, that can't be all Refn is going to Italy with…can it? Any chance for "Only God Forgives"? Guess we'll find out soon enough. Watch below. [ONTD]
Nice vidio…..thanks for sharing such a nice post!!
Angelababy
Enjoy the cash, Nicholas. Buy yourself something nice.
Honestly, nothing is more depressing than these luxury brand ads. It is as if every bit of humanity and life and spontaneity has been completely sucked out of every shot and every movement of the actors. Why in the world would any brand bother to hire a great director and then ask for THIS? This is just a boring, cliched print ad with motion and music. There are any number of famous and qualified stills cameramen who could have coaxed Blake Lively into being more stiff, more robotic, and less lifelike. Why Refn?
Other directors have tried this racket and virtually all have had their voices buried under a ton of luxury brand pretentiousness. The only one I can think that ever managed to escape with his voice left relatively intact was Baz Luhrmann when he did a Chanel ad with Nicole Kidman. That piece actually felt like part of his body of work.
But everyone else just gets buried under the sequins and beauty light.
After Savages can we stop pretenting this girl is an actress and not a model?
In my opinion, the best thing he's done since Bronson.
she sounds rather manly…
Is it me or m83 is everywhere lately
If someone else looks glormorously shiningly expensive, walking around, gonna be more interested, with this fucking awesome director.
