Given the big names involved—Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Rose Byrne, and Miranda Otto, in segments directed filmmakers including Mia Wasikowska, Justin Kurzel, David Wenham, and more—it’s a bit surprising the Aussie omnibus "The Turning" is taking its time appearing on U.S. shores. Main Street Films has the U.S. rights, but not much has been heard about a release date. But the moody film is headed to the U.K., and a new trailer just dropped.
Based on the ten short stories by Tim Winton, this multi-threaded film starts with the relationship between a young woman living in a trailer park with her abusive husband, and spreads out from there. Here’s the official synopsis:
"The Turning" opens in the U.K. on February 6th. Watch below. And it should be noted, that there are more segments that were made available online in Australia, but no word yet on how or if those will be released elsewhere.
One of the most interesting projects out of Australia in a long time. Can\’t recommend The Turning (both the book and the film(s) enough.
