Got a Tip?

Watch: New TV Spot For ‘The Lone Ranger’ Plus 2 New Posters

nullCharacter posters are super fun, especially when you get deep down into them, far enough that they start to highlight characters who even after seeing the movie you’re struggling to remember. It doesn’t look like we’re quite there yet with “The Lone Ranger” (but if the last ‘Pirates’ film is anything to go by then we’ll be plumbing those depths soon), but we are at the point where Helena Bonham-Carter and Ruth Wilson are getting their own one-sheets.

HBC’s character is introduced on the new poster simply as Red, but a further description tells us that she’s Red Harrington, “the dramatically coiffed, straight-talking, ivory-legged proprietor of a mobile establishment of lavish entertainments.” Meanwhile Ruth Wilson, who’s getting her first big break in Gore Verbinski’s film after catching the eye in the BBC’s “Luther,” has her character given the full-name treatment on the poster, Rebecca Reid, and we’re told that “she’s made for finer things, yet possesses the grit and independence of a frontierswoman. Her spirit is caught between two men: her husband Dan [James Badge Dale], and his younger brother, John [our hero – Armie Hammer].”

As well as this fresh brace of character posters, we’ve also got a new TV spot for the film which is due in theaters on July 3rd. We’re still not sure whether we expect this to be a massive hit like previous Disney-Gore Verbinski-Johnny Depp collaborations, or whether it could end up being a “John Carter” kind of flop. We’ll see. But until then, maybe we’ll get some incredible character poster?! Who could be next? William Fichtner? Barry Pepper? Tom Wilkinson? Or maybe even one for Harry Treadaway’s Frank, given that we’ve seen him in just bout every trailer and TV spot so far.
