Most films headed to the Cannes Film Festival keep their cards close to the chest, revealing as little as possible before making their grand premiere on the Croisette. Not so with “Grace Of Monaco.” Olivier Dahan‘s upcoming drama overcame a rumored clash with Harvey Weinstein to land the opening slot at Cannes in May. And now a three-minute trailer and over fifty new images have dropped to show off the goods that Dahan and Weinstein are bringing to France in just a couple of months.
Nicole Kidman leads an ensemble that includes Tim Roth, Paz Vega, Parker Posey, Frank Langella and Milo Ventimiglia, in the 1962 set story detailing Grace Kelly’s involvement with the dispute between Monaco’s Prince Rainier III and France’s Charles De Gaulle as the threat of invasion looms. But as the trailer reveals it’s about much more too, with Kelly trying to balance her career, life as a royal, her role as a mother and more, all while being in the eye of the public. It looks lush, and the costumes are fine, but we’re also getting an uneasy “Diana” mixed with “The Great Gatsby” vibe.
But that said, it is unspooling at the most prestigious festival in the world, so that says something. No set release date yet, but if this wows the critics at Cannes, you can bet Harv will hold off until the awards season. Trailer and pics below.
Nicole Kidman is a super actress and always gives extraordinary performances!, the film looks as a "must see".
She dominates and lights the screen the way Monroe, Hepburn, Taylor, Kelly did!

I may not see Grace Kelly either, but this looks to be no Diana.
When I watched this I did not see Grace Kelly… I saw Nicole Kidman. If a movie is being made about an iconic star, perhaps using an iconic star to portray her was the big misstep. Nicole has never impressed me with her American accent, it seems to oscillate between Australian and English undertones with a strange breathiness. I thought she was wonderful in Margot at the Wedding, The Others, Birthday Girl, Stoker and Dead Calm but her other movies do nothing for me. Perhaps she should stick with the characters she portrays best and not oversaturate the cinema market. She's not as transformative in her roles as she (is either)(a) told by her people (b) believes in her mind. She's more of a one trick pony. A good one…. so she should stick with characters that suit her. And would it really kill her to allow her face to mature normally a bit and play roles of 46 year old women? Meryl Streep is excellent for that reason…. she chooses well. Unfortunately, she's like that song you like until the radio station plays it four times every hour for weeks on end…. then you can't stand it.

That trailer is actually just about two minutes long. But, yet again, The Playlist don't actually watch or pay attention to anything they post. They are only about getting as many useless articles out there at once. You guys are in dire need of an actual editor.
Between you and me: That three-minute trailer is just a bit over two minutes long. Just saying.
Apart from that I guess it doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look particularly interesting either. I'm a fan of Kidman and I might be able to accept her in this role but the trailer sells this as a star-studded melodrama including Hollywood, royals, and superficial political highjinks. I guess I'll wait for reviews out of Cannes.
