With just over a month to go until Zack Snyder‘s “Sucker Punch,” this writer thinks Warner Bros. still has a lot of work to do. The brainchild of Snyder the film is an ambitious fantasy action pic but the marketing still doesn’t look like it’s doing anything but appealing to the niche of fans who are already sold on the film. Basically, to anyone who hasn’t been following the film, they won’t have any clue what this blitzkrieg of images and music actually means. As one of the Playlist better halves asked us recently: “Is that the medieval Spice Girls movie?”
The latest spot is pretty much a music video (it’s referred to as the “Trailer Painter” whatever that means) as it takes “Panic Switch” by Silversun Pickups and then edits a bunch of explosions and other stuff to the music. Sadly, none if it is memorable. It’s an entirely disposable spot that for us indicates a film brimming with lots and lots of eye candy fighting for attention. Starring Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Scott Glenn and Oscar Isaac, it centers on a girl who enters an alternate reality with her friends and begins planning an escape from a mental institution where she was put by her evil stepfather who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. From there, robots, dragons, airplanes, WWI battlefields and schoolboy fantasies all come into play as the quintet of girls kick ass in a CGI-filled landscape.
Anyhow, see it for yourself below. The film opens on March 25th.
I LOV INSANITY
I for one can\’t wait to see this film. Zack Snyder\’s (Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen) films are always must-sees. And I happen to love Silversun Pickups. Ohh, you know what, I\’ll just spend my ten bucks on another awful Transformers film or a Tyler Perry film instead.
Ladies and Gentlemen… once again, I present to you: Zack Snyder\’s Wet Dream. No thank you.
I do think this could appeal to a female audience. If they know it\’s out there. Eh. I think this has giant stinker written all over it.
I wonder if this film will hit a niche it doesn\’t expect? My girlfriend, who only sees romantic comedies like No Strings Attached and the etc., actually really wants to see this.
Could this be a surprise hit with female audiences?
\”Ohh, you know what, I’ll just spend my ten bucks on another awful Transformers film or a Tyler Perry film instead.\”
yes, because those are the only other options we have and as long as they exist you cannot criticize anything.
So much Orange & Teal!!!!
This film is outdoing Michael Bay in lazy digital color correction.
I should be jizzing about this film (even if there is no reason why a girls fantasy world should look like ti was dreamed up by a 12 year old boy who just discovered masturbation) but I\’m just not really sold on the look.
Seems like a step back from the first trailer and comes off like almost like a fan made joint. Despite this trailer (and the recent reports that the studio wasn\’t thrilled with the film), I think that Snyder has talent and could benefit from taking some advice from Nolan.
I\’m afraid that \”this\” is what it\’s about.
as the trailers aren\’t building up to get us excited about the actual story, I\’m guess that there isn\’t one.
What\’s with the music video? Can we have some dialogue, so I can understand what this is about…
Isn\’t the main problem that, whenever the main character faces any danger, everyone will just be thinking, \”Why can\’t she imagine something else then?\”
How can people watch this and still have hope for Superman?
I should like this. Young girls and revealing clothes, Carla Gugino with an accent, but I really hope it fails I think the trailers look awful but i felt something similar with 300.
