Watch: New Trailer For Pixar’s ‘Brave’ Arrives & Delivers A Sprawling Adventure

It's been a bit of a disappointing 2011 for Pixar fans. The famed animation studio spent the year spinning its wheels both creatively and figuratively "Cars 2," the second straight sequel from the studio built around orginal ideas, with two "Toy Story" shorts making their way to theaters as well. But don't worry, 2012 finds the company not only returning with their first original film since "Up," it will also the first picture from Pixar to feature a female protoganist. And in case you doubted that Pixar still had the goods, the newest trailer for the film that just hit Facebook is as dazzling and exciting as you might expect.

Starring Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters and Kevin McKidd, the story, set in the Scottish highlands in years gone by, focuses on Princess Merida, the daughter of the rulers of the kingdom, who defies a sacred custom of the land and unintentionally brings turmoil to the kingdom. In order to try and set things right, she goes to a Wise Woman, and is granted a wish that may be more than she bargained for. And yes, as that synopsis suggests, this is unlike anything Pixar has done before. A period based fantasy film, with a epic scope a pretty grand sense of adventure. Another winner from Pixar? It sure seems that way.

"Brave" opens on June 22, 2012. Watch the trailer below as well as some new images from the movie courtesy of Empire.

  1. It "looks" cliche' and typical. The overall design is a meh. I'm not judging the actual film, I'm just talking about the trailer. The teaser was so much much better.

  2. I don't understand why everyone has jumped onto the pixar hate band wagon. Yes they made one film that wasn't on Parr with other pixar films, it was still better than most Dreamworks films. Besides no one has even seen this films, so how can you say that it is bad? I'm going to wait until I actually see the movie until I judge on whether it's cliched or not.

  3. Pixar trailers never live up to the actual movie. Regardless, I agree that this one has a little too much silliness and reminded me a bit of How to Train Your Dragon. But I also thought it was gorgeous and am there seems to be hints at a much deeper plot that we really don't see at all here–which is good. I am very much looking forward to it.

  4. Looks gorgeous but the story/ themes are completely cliche'd and show no growth on Pixar's part as storytellers – if anything, it looks like they're getting worse.

  5. Eh, I dunno. Ugly character designs, some cheap gags and a fairly tired story. Isn't it just Mulan in Scotland? McMulan? Looks more like a DreamWorks animation.
