Watch: New Trailer For Paul Schrader’s ‘The Canyons’ Starring Lindsay Lohan & James Deen

The Canyons Lindsay Lohan“I felt that another storyline was developing,” director Paul Schrader recently told us about the chatter surrounding “The Canyons,” “which was people confusing a troubled production with a troubled film — people do this all the time. Whereas in fact, there’s very little in common [with the two]. Some of the smoothest shoots in the world make terrible movies, and vice versa.” And in short, Schrader overcame whatever difficulties landed in his path. He’s very proud of the end result, even if the journey was challenging. He is now getting ready to show it off to the world, and a brand new trailer is here to finally unveil what “The Canyons” truly looks like.

While there were a series of genre-oriented teasers last year, they were not indicative of the final product at all, but this is hitting closer to home. As you know, Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen team up in this Bret Easton Ellis-penned story of beautiful young people doing very bad things. The opening of the trailer is pretty clever, with Lohan’s character essentially suggesting that moviegoing is out of style — fitting, given that Schrader’s film will be hitting VOD and arthouses simultaneously. And yet, the marketing around the movie continues to play up the spicier elements to some degree.

“Lindsay Lohan has more natural acting talent than [Marilyn] Monroe did,” Schrader recently wrote in Film Comment, with the magazine also including a rather eye-opening spread (via Bleeding Cool) with pics of both Lohan and Deen showing what God gave them.

“The Canyons” will open in New York City on August 2nd, and will also be available on the same day on VOD and iTunes. Watch below.

  1. Far better trailer this time around. Liked the buildup and the great NYT profile. Perhaps Sundance wasn't the right place to premiere it. My guess is the programmers didn't want the festival to be overshadowed by LL. Can't wait for this movie.

  2. This movie really needed a sound designer, three composers (assuming Me&John is two people) and three music supervisors? Is it a musical? That's more than Les Miserables.

  3. the distributor said "let's just try to trick people that it's edgey like Spring Breakers…. and hire a kid for nothing to make Skrillex beats in the background"
