Got a Tip?

Watch: New Trailer For David MacKenzie’s ‘Perfect Sense’ Starring Ewan McGregor & Eva Green

Can Ewan McGregor string together strong back-to-back performances after Mike Mills‘ “Beginners“? Can he match the heartfelt chemistry he shared with Melanie Laurent in Mills’ film with another much-loved Gallic thespian in Eva Green? And will David MacKenzie‘s fusion of a love story and a disaster pic work at all? All questions we’re currently asking of “Perfect Sense,” the latest effort from the Scottish helmer who broke out with another McGregor-starrer “Young Adam” back in 2003.

The interesting story follows a chef and a scientist who begin to fall in love as an epidemic hits the world that steals sensory perceptions away. As was the case with the first trailer, our hopes are somewhat dashed with taglines like “without love, there is nothing” and a cut of McGregor proclaiming “life goes on” but a McGregor-MacKenzie reunion is surely something to look forward to. And, of course, who isn’t a fan of Green?

The film was penned by Danish scribe Kim Fupz Aakeson — who wrote the enjoyable, farcical yet humane crime-caper “A Somewhat Gentle Man” starring Stellan Skarsgaard — and debuted in Park City earlier this year to a lukewarm response. One review shatters our hopes calling the pic a “very complex and intelligent story hybrid that, must have looked great on paper and sounded impressive in discussion, but as a movie, it splatters all over the screen in unsatisfying genetic mutations.” Other reviews were a bit more generous complementing the helmer for “brilliantly using images and situations to truly depict what it would be like to go without the traits that make us human.”

Soon after its premiere at Sundance, the film was picked up by IFC though we still have no release date in sight. [Empire]
