The embargo has lifted on the Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Casey Affleck, Aaron Paul, Gal Gadot and Anthony Mackie starring "Triple 9." While he had high hopes for the John Hillcoat directed crime flick, our own Oliver Lyttelton was disappointed, calling it a series of "empty genre tropes going through motions without much of a theme to show for it." Still, that cast is hard to ignore.
The Black List approved script by Matt Cook follows a group of corrupt cops who are manipulated into pulling off a daring bank heist, which will involve killing one of their own. Here’s the official synopsis:
In TRIPLE 9, a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist. The only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action-packed finale filled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.
