Watch: New Spot For HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ Delivers A Sermon

The LeftoversDid creator/writer/producer of HBO‘s "The Leftovers" learn anything from the finale "Lost," that disappointed legions of fans who felt they were hoodwinked by a show that set up a mystery that it couldn’t solve? According to an extensive profile in The New York Times, he has. But that said, he still loves a good whodunnit. “There are people who are comfortable with mystery,” Damon Lindelof said. “And there are people who are uncomfortable with mystery. I’m very comfortable with mystery; I think most of the people in [the writer’s] room are comfortable with mystery.”

And so, it’s now less than a week when the questions will begin when HBO kicks of "The Leftovers," and another tantalizing promo is here. Justin Theroux is at the epicenter of the story, which kicks off when 2% of the world’s population just ups and vanishes one day, with everyone left to deal with the emotional and potentially supernatural aftermath. And this new spot highlights the fervor it has created in some corners of the community, with a hair raising sermon suggesting this is only the beginning of what’s to come.

"The Leftovers" airs on Sunday, June 29th at 10 p.m.

  1. What nonsense. The issue has never been whether audiences are "comfortable with a mystery."

The issue occurs when a storyteller disrespects his audience's trust by failing to resolve the "mystery" in a way that warranted their time and investment.
