When Fox Searchlight surprised many by dropping "Hitchcock" right into the midst of the Oscar season, prognosticator types wondered if would be a game changer. Well, while the verdict is still out, its awards season chances will start to be determined tonight when the film opens the AFI Fest in Los Angeles. But to start the chatter a little early this afternoon, the studio has unveiled a tiny teaser.
As part of a promo endeavor called Share Your Scream where you can create your very own "Hitchcock" poster featuring your face, we get a very brief look at Anthony Hopkins as the titular director stepping in himself to terrorize Janet Leigh (Scarlett Johansson) in the infamous "Psycho" shower scene. Between this and the HBO movie "The Girl," Hitch is coming off like a bit of an asshole, though the trailers suggest that this film is perhaps a touch more lighthearted about his relationship with cast members.
Co-starring Helen Mirren, James D'Arcy, Jessica Biel, Toni Colette, Danny Huston, Michael Stuhlbarg, Michael Wincott, Kurtwood Smith, Wallace Langham and Ralph Macchio, "Hitchcock" opens on November 23rd. Check out the scene below along with the new poster (via Flicks And Bits).
This movie looks too lighthearted and fleeting to stand much of a chance. Granted, those kinds of movies have been nominated before, but when dealing with a subject like this, a little more weight is needed for the story.
