Good lord, Disney, we get it. With a few weeks to go until “Maleficent” arrives in theatres, the mouse house is cranking on the promotional machine hard, as they really try to avoid a “John Carter“-type situation from happening. While “Maleficent” is tied into their classic animated film “Sleeping Beauty,” it’s still got a weird name, and outside of Angelina Jolie, the kind of cast that doesn’t generally move units, but they’re hoping history and nostalgia can do some of the heavy lifting.
A slew of trailers, TV spots, featurettes and posters have been brought online, and they all want to underscore—heavily—how the movie is carrying on history. Basically, this will show how the Evil Queen in the animated movie was actually an okay person until she was brutally betrayed. And there is a lot of spectacle up on the screen, with this movie clearly not on the cheap side, with special effects maestro Robert Stromberg making his feature debut. Will audiences want to wave a magic wand for this?

Evil Fairy not evil queen. I'm in. Looks like it could be good.
