Watch: New International Trailer For ‘Clouds Of Sils Maria’ Welcomes You To The Real World

Clouds Of Sils MariaSome actors will say that their job is nothing more just playing pretend, but for others, it can be—intentionally or not—a reflection of their real life, with the roles and material sometimes sharing elements with their off-screen persona. And that dynamic seems to be at the heart of Olivier Assayas‘ "Clouds Of Sils Maria," and a new trailer has dropped for the industry centered drama.

Starring Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart and Chloe Moretz, the film tells the story of an older actress who joins a new version of the play that made her famous, only to grow obsessed with the young starlet taking the star-making part. It’s a mix of ideas about celebrity and aging, though our critic in Cannes wasn’t exactly taken with it, saying the film "threads through the peaks and valleys of weighty, interesting topics, but makes no lasting impression on them."

Still, this does look like a showcase for the trio of lead actresses, and Assayas is always one to watch. No release date from IFC Films for this one just yet, so watch below.

  1. I think it\’s a wonderful movie…does anybody knows the Name of the piano peace,
from the start, during the first minute of the movie trailer ?

  2. Joe Reid from The Wire just confirmed that Kristen Stewart was not the first choice for the part she played, she was supposed to play the Chloe Moretz part, in his TIFF review of CoSM:

Reid called Clouds of Sils Maria a "bit of a dud" and that Chloe Moretz was out of her depth. The last two sentences say it all:

"The director spoke of this long-gestating project as once intending to cast Stewart in the Jo-Ann role and Mia Wasikowska as Valentine, a swap that would have probably done wonders for both characters and both actresses.

As a festival kick-off, having a highly anticipated film deliver something of a dud should probably feel more disappointing than it does. But it's TIFF, and I have over twenty more films to take in. #

So her fans can stop saying she was the first choice for the assistant role. She wasn't, Mia was.

I couldnt hear any of the dialogue only music played over the scenes?
I was concerned and confused about kristens interviews that suggested her affair with her boss / director in real life was used for the film,"live life and show what youve learnt"? when she was doing this film almost immediatly after. about getting involved with her boss (married in the film?) were you refering to this with that comment? the director said she seems to perform better when she is playing a version of herself, all actors can deliver a performance the more they can connect with it either from personal experience or seen others experiences, comment seemed more direct

  4. Playlist has always been rude about Kristen. In this case they're surfacing their 'biased' review of Clouds Of Sils Maria, while others gave very very positive & strong review. What the hell, playlist!

  5. So looking forward to this – a movie with three lead actresses! All the movies I've seen lately are sausage/explosion flicks, tasty like candy but empty – seriously in dire need of a movie where I can hang out with women thinking about their work and careers and not just dudes for a change. Bring it on IFC, could use some brain food.
