Watch: New Footage In Featurette For ‘Anna Karenina’ With Keira Knightley, Jude Law & Aaron Johnson

nullIt seems folks are still divided on Joe Wright's undeniably audacious take on Leo Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina." After a trailer and a generous six minute clip, some haven't cottoned to Wright's approach, while this writer, at least, has fallen for what has been on display so far, something that at least looks like a fresh approach to literary drama tropes. And with the film just over a month away from its U.K. release and festival bow on this side of the ocean, another peek at the movie has arrived.

Focus Features has dropped a new featurette for the film, one that goes behind the scenes of the production, offering up a good amount of new snippets of footage along with interviews with the director and cast. In case you missed out on your lit class in high school or college, "Anna Karenina" is a tragic love story about the titular married Russian aristocrat who causes a scandal when she falls for an army officer outside of her rank and class. Shot mostly on a soundstage utilizing interconnected sets and a unique visual style, Wright suggests that his choice to make it this way reflects the egos of the upper crust that are portrayed in the film. But whether it works or not, we'll soon see.

Starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Kelly Macdonald, Olivia Williams, Ruth Wilson, Holliday Grainger and more, the film opens in the U.S. on November 9th. Take a look below.

  1. I really can't wait to see this movie. Filming most of it on a stage in a theater is incredibly, visually creative. Never have I seen a movie made by one director who placed all the sequences of the movie in a theater. That is just very creative, I have a feeling many around the world will love this film adaptation of the novel of Anna Karenina.

  2. SAVE OUR SYRIA
    (SOS)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (July 30, 2012)

Timothy Kessler, a recent resident of Washington, DC , has announced he is hiring a private army to end the genocide in Syria by capturing President Bashar al-Assad and taking him to The Hague for trial. There he will be tried for the slaughter of thousands of innocent men, women and children.
He said, “Hopefully, this monster will be given a swift trial and then hanged. His unspeakable and reprehensible misdeeds must be stopped now. While the shelling and suffering are watched by millions on television, the impotent United Nations does nothing but engage in mindless babel. I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it any longer!”
Mr. Kessler had put out a discreet call to veterans from the Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars to join his crusade. They will serve as mercenaries and he is also footing the bill for transportation, food, housing, weapons and ammunition. He is not willing to reveal where this Special Forces Unit will train, nor how or when they will strike. His commander is a decorated retired Brigadier General.
Kessler’s German background includes a grandfather who served in World War II with Col. Otto Skorzeny, until he defected to join the French Underground. His diary reveals the intimate details for Skorzeny’s capture of Benito Mussolini.
“I can only say,” he continued, “that for the past six weeks I’ve had confidential meetings with former Navy Seals, Green Berets and CIA operatives. We have developed a secret attack strategy along with an exit plan for the highly skilled brave soldiers and sailors . They are willing to put their lives on the line, as will loyal Syrian rebels helping us launch this covert operation.”
Mr. Kessler admits he will face some chagrin from the White House and Pentagon for revealing his intentions. But he adds, “These are times when decent citizens have to take action. Otherwise we are all guilty of malfeasance and obstruction of justice, standing by as thousands are dying from bullets, bombs and deprivation in Syria.”
Although this Special Forces Unit has already reached its full complement of volunteers, applications for substitutes will be accepted on a website presently under construction.

  3. Kevin, please read the book before you write a review on the movie. Vronsky and Anna Karenina belong to the same "rank and class", that is how they met and fell in love with each other. But, it was unacceptable to leave the family and ask for divorce at that society.

  4. Are there any photos of Holliday Grainger as The Baroness around? I require one for the blog dedicated to Miss Grainger that I set up. You can find the blog here:
