Watch: New ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ Trailer Takes Us Inside The Alien Lair

When you think about it, the fact that the guy who rolled with Vince Vaughn in “Swingers” has become of one of the biggest tentpole directors in Hollywood is kind of amazing. The fact that he knows how to bring the steak with the sizzle is even better, and “Cowboys & Aliens” looks to be Jon Favreau‘s meatiest offering yet.

The film features a star-studded cast including Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano, Olivia Wilde, Noah Ringer, Walton Goggins, Keith Carradine and Ana de la Reguera and tells the story of a group of Apache Indians and Western settlers in Arizona who must lay their differences aside when an alien spaceship crash lands in their city. It’s a ballsy genre mash-up — with two different niches that historically have been no guarantee of box office success — and to his credit, Favreau is staying true to his word that the marketing campaign will keep the creatures hidden from view. Universal are hoping the gambit will payoff as it did for J.J. Abrams‘ “Super 8,” but this newest trailer opens the curtains just a little bit more, allowing us a peek of the alien ship/lair and an ever so brief glimpse of a hand or claw. But that’s it.

“Cowboys & Aliens” will make a splashy premiere at Comic-Con before hitting theaters on July 29th.

  1. Edward – although it\’s clearly inconceivable to you that the first sentence of this article could have been misleading in any way, bear in mind that for most people the person who \”makes\” a film is the director. I\’d never claim that Favreau wasn\’t a huge creative force behind it, but for purposes of clarification, it should be noted that he didn\’t direct the film. That\’s a fact, regardless of what else I might need to get my shit straight about. If you were discussing \’Swingers\’ with Doug Liman, would you refer to Favreau as \’the guy who made it\’?

  2. There\’s no reason why a sci-fi Western directed by the guy who played Gutter in \”P.C.U.\” looks as awesome as it does, but that\’s the cold hard truth we have to deal with. Sidenote: I hope Daniel Craig\’s bum is insured by Lloyd\’s of London for however much J.Lo\’s is.

  3. Favreau, wrote, conceived, produced and starred in \”Swingers.\” It was his baby. Liman was the person he and his producing team found to direct the picture. Yes, Liman, helped create it, but don\’t diminish the fact that without Favreau, there is no Swingers. Get your shit straight. 🙂

  4. It is amazing that \”the guy who made \’Swingers\’ has become of one of the biggest tentpole directors in Hollywood,\” if you are referring to Doug Liman, director of Swingers. But I\’m not sure what that has to do with this article.

Perhaps you meant \”The guy who made \’Made\’?\”
