Matt Damon alone in outer space? Yeah, it sounds like we saw this movie already in Christopher Nolan‘s "Interstellar." But instead of going full crazy and making life difficult for the team that finds him, in "The Martian," the astronaut is genuinely trying to survive and make it back to Earth safe and alive, after he’s left alone on Mars.

But before we get to the peril, this first preview promo for the movie introduces us to crew of the Hermes as they head to the red planet. Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Michael Peña and more serve as our guides through the ship and their mission, with Damon’s character signing off and looking forward to some deep dish pizza when he gets home. He doesn’t yet realize how good it’s going to taste after what he’s about to experience.
Also featuring Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mackenzie Davis, Sean Bean, Donald Glover and Naomi Scott, "The Martian" opens on November 25th.
Way too long. 3 minutes and 17 seconds trailer jesus why not just show the whole film?
As a promo, that was terrible. I hope it is not a sign of things to come. It\’s basically the character introduction sequence (complete with awkwardly delivered improv-y dialog) you see in every bad found footage movie ever made.
NO more Matt Damon
I hate the Cubs (the sox are awful too) as much as I hate deep dish pizza. I hope he doesn\’t make it back from Mars
America does not watch fake fat britshit import junk propatainment movies with fake fat box-office figures that are never released within America and that America will never, ever, ever see or hear of, like this fake fat britishit caucasian import propatainment junkshow called "The Martian"!! Britshit lose again, dumb fake fat apeshit!!
Can\’t Wait!!
the prime offenders I spoke of: Clooney\’s insufferable wisecracking in Gravity, and that atrocious robot in Interstellar. This movie seems to have a similar awkwardness. BUT it\’s just a teaser so who knows? Clearly the novel is great and has its fans. Hopefully the movie will be good… after all, Sir Ridley made one of the top 3 space movies of all time (Alien, natch).
Forgot to say, also love the incidental look at the Hermes. And Doris, if you think Gravity and Interstellar made any significant attempts at humor, you obviously saw different movies than I did. As a huge fan of the book, it just wouldn\’t be right for the humor not to be there. The tension would overwhelm it. I think this a huge concern among fans of the novel, which is why they emphasized it in the first trailer. Thumbs up from me!
when big space movies try to be funny, it\’s almost always incredibly awkward. (Interstellar and Gravity are the most heinous offenders).
Love it! The book is so wonderfully unorthodox, and I love they made a funny, unconventional trailer. But is not just fun, it\’s also intense and thrilling and wonky. Hope Ridley can capture the spirit. Damon\’s a great choice, I think.
I am such a sucker for sci-fi. Must get into some 12-step program or something…
