It’s kind of amazing, considering the trouncing he received with his Oscar-hosting appearance and dismal box-office showing of “A Million Ways to Die in the West” that writer/director Seth MacFarlane, hasn’t shown an ounce of humility in the aftermath of those events, but we suppose he still has the $549.4 million worldwide gross of “Ted” to feed his ego every morning during his “you are still special” pep talk to the mirror routine. MacFarlane was at it again recently, throwing pot shots at low-hanging fruit “Paul Blart 2” during CinemaCon, which is much like the biggest loser in school making fun of the special needs child in class, but we suppose that’s par for the course.
MacFarlane, his million dollar smile and his unctuous sense of self-worth, has a new movie coming out this summer: “Ted 2,” which once again features Ted — an obnoxious, filthy-minded and ‘80s-referencing obsessed Teddy bear — and the misadventures he gets into with his childhood friend played by Mark Wahlberg. This time Mila Kunis takes a backseat and the female interest of the movie is Amanda Seyfried. Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Dennis Haysbert, Jessica Barth and yes, Mila Kunis co-star. This time, the movie centers on Ted trying to get his girlfriend pregnant, but since the Teddy bears is shooting blanks, he has to lean on Wahlberg’s man-juice to artificially inseminate his girl. Hi jinks and hilarity surely ensue. The hi-concept, masterpiece theater synopsis is thus:
Seth MacFarlane returns as writer, director and voice star of Ted 2, Universal and Media Rights Capital’s follow-up to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time. Joined once again by star Mark Wahlberg and fellow Ted writers Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild, MacFarlane produces the live action/CG-animated comedy alongside Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber, as well as John Jacobs and Jason Clark.
