Who would have thought that sex addiction would become kind of… passé? Once a sort of taboo disease that made great fodder for tabloid talk shows, it’s now positively mainstream, sitting alongside alcohol and drug addition as a treatable affliction you can learn to live with, with most folks now having a better understanding of what it’s all about. But the movie world has yet to truly tackle the subject (“Shame” being one of the most high profile in recent years), but “Thanks For Sharing” will take a stab at it.
The first trailer for the movie has arrived, and sells it as the lighthearted dramedy it is. Mark Ruffalo stars as a sober sex addict, who enters a new relationship with Gwyneth Paltrow, who has yet to learn of his disease. Meanwhile the ensemble also includes Josh Gad, a sufferer mentored by Ruffalo, trying to get his desires under control, and a surprisingly good Pink as another character trying to prevent themselves fucking anything they can. But, it doesn’t really work.
As we wrote in our review out of TIFF, the film “stretches itself both too thin and conventional across two hours that feel both too long and too short… Never quite as deep or probing as it thinks it is.” And you’ll be able to judge for yourself when “Thanks For Sharing” opens later this year.
