Video supercuts come and go, but one annual treat is Little White Lies’ U.S. editor David Ehrlich’s top 25 video countdown. Consistently well scored and well cut, his annual video montage always features an intoxicating energy and distills the year’s highlights into a dazzling little visual video essay that reminds us why we love cinema so much.
Ehrlich also recently contributed to our essentials on acclaimed documentarian Les Blank and our retrospective of French comedy titan Jacques Tati (plug!), so be sure to check those out too. Without too many spoilers —you’ve got to watch and enjoy the video— Ehrlich/LWL names “The Grand Budapest Hotel” their #1 film of the year and other highlights include “Under The Skin,” Richard Ayoade’s “The Double,” "Boyhood," Jean-Luc Godard’s “Goodbye To Language,” “Inherent Vice” and more. Check out the video below: it will hopefully reignite your excitement for the strength of cinema in 2014, and will hopefully point you in the direction of some great films. [Little White Lies]
