“I lost everything,” Keanu Reeves intones solemnly in the new trailer for “John Wick.” Family, friends, you name it. But when you kill Keanu Reeves’ puppy, well, that’s a line you just don’t cross. Why? Because killing Reeve’s puppy will unleash a rain of revenge and terror. Yep, from what we can tell, that’s the gist of “John Wick,” the upcoming revenge actioner starring Reeves as a retired hitman who gets so pissed off that he’s coming to kill the puppy murderers real good.
Sample line of dialogue: "People keep asking If I’m back. Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back." But you know what? “John Wick” scored some rave reviews out of Fantastic Fest. Sure, it’s a genre fest where revenge movies go down like Arby’s at a homeless shelter, but most reviews were amounted to “damn, Keanu’s actually pretty damn good in this!” (you can read our mixed/positive review here). The official synopsis is short and sweet.
An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. With New York City as his bullet-riddled playground, JOHN WICK (Keanu Reeves) is a fresh and stylized take on the "assassin genre."
Directed by Chad Stahelski and co-starring Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, with Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe, “John Wick” opens on October 24. Watch the new trailer below.
