We know we’ve been posting a lot about “Under The Skin,” but not only is it one of the most unique moviegoing experiences you’ll have this year, it’s damn good, and it will leave you with a lot to unpack once it’s over. So any time with director Jonathan Glazer talking about the movie, is time well spent.
Over at Film4, the filmmaker sat down to discuss his movie and the result is an in depth, 20-minute featurette that covers pretty much everything you’d want to know about the movie. From Glazer’s decision not to do a direct adaptation of Michael Faber’s book, to his approach on the semi-guerilla shoot and much more. It’s been a decade since the director’s last film, “Birth,” so again, this is well worth the watch.
Meanwhile, one of the most striking elements of the movie comes not from what’s on the screen, but in the speakers—Mica Levi‘s phenomenal score. And in a piece with The Guardian, she reveals the interesting array of influences she brought to the project. “I didn’t listen to a lot of other soundtracks while I was writing; I was worried about being porous,” Levi explained. “A lot of the influences either came from quite visual directions or 20th-century music I’d cut my teeth on at Guildhall: Giacinto Scelsi, Iannis Xenakis and John Cage… these big, music-changing composers. But I also took a lot of inspiration from strip-club music and euphoric dance as well.”
