The last time we saw Jake Gyllenhaal investigate a case he went full on obsessed as Robert Graysmith in David Fincher‘s “Zodiac.” While his Detective Loki (lol!) might not lose his family over the case in “Prisoners,” he’s no less committed. The film — one of two Gyllenhaal is repping in Toronto — is easily one of the most intriguing hitting theaters next month and now we’ve got another little taste at the ensemble drama.
Co-starring Hugh Jackman, Melissa Leo, Terrence Howard and Viola Davis, the film follows Keller, a small-town carpenter whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped. As the investigation drags on and no suspect is arrested, Keller begins to take the law in his own hands, focusing on the prime suspect played by Paul Dano. But of course, the obvious answer isn’t always the right one and it seems there is much more to tale. With a Black List script by Aaron Guzikowski, and “Incendies” director Denis Villeneuve behind the camera, this one is promising.
“Prisoners” hits TIFF and opens in theaters on September 20th. [MTV]
