By now you’ve heard the buzz around Jack O’Connell, the actor who wowed critics and audiences with his turn in "Starred Up" and leads Angelina Jolie‘s upcoming "Unbroken" (oh yeah, he was also in "300: Age Of Empires," but he probably would prefer if no one talked about that). But the movie that put him on the radar is "’71." After debuting at the Berlin Film Festival, picking up steam on the festival circuit and opening abroad, the movie is finally landing stateside, and the first trailer is here.
Directed by Yann Demange (who picked up Best Director at the British Independent Film Awards), the story follows a British soldier who gets caught behind enemy lines during The Troubles in Belfast in 1971, and must rely on his wits to survive. This is one white knuckler you’ll want to see. Our review called it an " unbearably tense, incredibly involving anti-war statement," and hell, you’ll want to be on the ground floor when O’Connell is a household name in a couple years time.
" ’71" opens on February 27th. Watch below along with posters, a TV spot, and interviews with both Demange and O’Connell.
@Jess what do you mean by his accent being distracting?
Except some of us were on the ground floor and rooting for him when he was chewing the scenery out of every frame of Skins
This guy…he\’s something else. Terrific in Starred Up and I cannot wait to see what he brings to this movie along with Unbroken. At first I thought the accent would be distracting, if anything it adds so much to his character.
