Got a Tip?

Watch: It’s The Ultimate Superhero Showdown In Epic ‘Marvel Vs. DC’ Trailer

The Dark Knight Captain America: The Winter SoldierHoly crap! We know what we want for Christmas! Attention, movie brass! This “Marvel vs DC” trailer is by far one of the most impressive fan-made videos we’ve seen in a long time. YouTube user Alex Luthor’s (great pseudonym) video has us drooling over the thought of how awesome a Marvel vs. DC movie would actually be. The editing is perfect, the attention to detail is stellar, and the range of content he used to splice it together is just mind-boggling. Okay, deep breaths. In. Out. Repeat.

In the mid-1990s, comic book nerds everywhere took a deep pull on our collective inhalers when Marvel and DC Comics announced they’d be collaborating on a four-issue crossover in which iconic heroes from each universe battled one another. It was the stuff of dreams! Ron Marz and Peter David wrote the tetraptych and Dan Jurgens and Claudio Castellini illustrated. But the results were mixed, with short page-long fights that ultimately led to an inter-universe team-up everyone and their mom saw (or should have seen) coming.

In Luthor’s trailer, the two universes come together, but not at all unlike they did in the comics. In brilliant sequencing (and a funny reminder of how many superhero films feature bright blue, “sciency" beams), the heroes are all transported out of their elements to each others’ cities. Then they fight! YouTuber Luthor must have read the crossover, because his trailer features a few of the pivotal matches from the series, including Batman versus Captain America (Batman for the win!) and Superman versus Hulk. Some of the editing Luthor employs is baffling (for reference, see: Batman throws batarangs, which Spider-Man dodges). More impressive is the material he mined to make the trailer, going so far as to tap into cinematics from video games and defunct TV pilots.

The chances we’ll ever see an actual Marvel versus DC crossover on film are… well, those do not exist currently and will not for many many years. So with that in mind, we tip our hat to Alex Luthor and the geek glory that is his trailer, which we are now going to watch on loop until the New Year. [via AVClub]
