01.02.14 Update: Given it’s six months later, we’re not sure if this is the same sizzle reel that debuted in the summer, but an international trailer for Anton Corbijn‘s “A Most Wanted Man” is back online. The film is set to debut at Sundance 2014 later this month, and while it wasn’t in part one of our 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2014, check back on Monday and we bet you’ll see it there (and for those keeping score it was there in 2013 too). Lionsgate has domestic rights and we assume sometime after its Park City debut, the company will figure out when they want to release it this year.
Last year: There’s no domestic date yet and no distributor either, but that doesn’t change the fact that Anton Corbijn‘s “A Most Wanted Man” is highly anticipated. The director behind the enigmatic “Control” and the cool and collected “The American,” returns with a new project, an adaptation of a John Le Carre novel and he’s bringing a helluva cast with him for what looks like another excellent outing for the filmmaker.
Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, Willem Dafoe and Daniel Bruhl (damn) the film tells the tale of a half-Chechen, half-Russian, tortured half-to-death immigrant who turns up in Hamburg’s Islamic community, laying claim to his father’s ill-gotten fortune. Both German and U.S. security agencies take a close interest in him as the race is on to find out who he really is: oppressed victim or destruction-bent extremist?
And this leaked sizzle reel footage, presumably presented recently at the Cannes Film Festival in the market, looks simply great. Once again, Corbijn has crafted a film with a tremendous sense of mood, in what looks like a grownup and mature movie, that will offer some an intelligent, tense little story. Which is basically a rarity these days. The entire cast looks on-point, and even the accents feel spot on. So yeah, our anticipation is growing further.
Watch below while you can.
*raises hand* umm.. unfortunately as of Weds. 15 JAN, 2014 .. it appears to be gone again. Oh well.
my buddy's sister-in-law says this will be good.
that is one very white cast
rachel mcadams plays the lead and I cnt wait to here more of her accent. amy adams, jessica chaistian and carye mulligan all auditon for her role.So its a very good role. Hoping for nominations during award season
Cool! I forgot which Le Carre films were in production.
Whoa. This looks great? ok. Carry on.
McAdams is central in the trailer but we only hear her accent once. A little worried since it has been a while since she's had a meaty role.
Who's the guy playing the immigrant? daniel bruhl? He's practically the star of the film and his name was not mentioned in the trailer.
Wow, this looks great. Venice premiere I imagine.
That's easily the best german accent I've ever heard from an english speaking actor.
