While outrageous comedies have generally been the domain for boys, the crew from “Bridesmaids” looks to upset that balance. The first trailer for the film has arrived and gives us some hearty laughs from its talented roster.
The massive ensemble cast is led by Kristen Wiig (who-co wrote the film), and includes Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Jon Hamm, Jill Clayburgh, Matthew Lucas, Chris O’Dowd, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthy and Wendy McLendon-Covey. The film centers on Annie (Wiig), a simple and single 30-something Midwestern girl (with a poor dating track record) who is asked to be her best friend Lillian’s (Rudolph) maid of honor. However, having never done the job, she struggles to please the snobby, rich bridesmaids at every pre-wedding event. One of Lillian’s best friends is essentially the bridesmaid from hell (Byrne) — who attempts to take over the maid of honor duties from the inexperienced Annie.
We have to say, this first trailer is breath of fresh air and looks like a lot of fun. It looks like everyone in the extensive cast is stepping up their game and we’re glad to see amazingly funny people like Wiig and Rudolph given leading roles and a chance to shine. We think they’re making the most of the opportunity. And it certainly doesn’t hurt to have Judd Apatow producing and Paul Feig in the director’s chair. “Bridesmaids” hits on May 13th. Check out the full synopsis, more pictures and the trailer below (or in HD at Apple).
This spring, producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, Superbad) and director Paul Feig (creator of Freaks and Geeks) invite you to experience Bridesmaids. Kristen Wiig leads the cast as Annie, a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), and a group of colorful bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to matrimony. Annie’s life is a mess. But when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian’s maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. With one chance to get it perfect, she’ll show Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you’ll go for someone you love.
@Drew Taylor: We\’re sorry if we don\’t consider women doing men\’s pratfalls and burp/fart jokes a revolutionary feat.
Like I said before, I hope the movie is better, but this trailer left a lot to be desired.
I have seen funnier trailers to be honest & you guys are biased towards anything Apatow does anyways. After all, you guys are his target demographic – nerdy white geeks….even on a female-centric film!
Matthew Lucas is the fat bridesmaid?
I feel like some people just pre-decided to like this trailer just because of Wiig and Apatow. I was not impressed with this trailer. So yeah, hope the movie is funnier.
You assholes are right. There\’s always an R-Rated comedy made by ladies for ladies in multiplexes; they are bursting at the seams like the pair of pants you can barely fit into. That whole concept is a dime a dozen (eyeroll).
A breath of fresh air? This thing smells like it crawled out of a septic tank. Not a single funny joke.
This looks like every other Apatow comedy.
Sooo fresh…
The fat lady didn\’t even know if she burped or farted!
@rotch: I read a draft of the script and this trailer doesn\’t even scratch the surface of the most hilarious parts. I think tonally it looks spot on, though, so I have hope that they are just saving the good parts for the film/next trailer.
Kind of glad it\’s not Jon Hamm as the sympathetic cop, think that\’s gonna work better for this.
This looks great!
I really want to see this, but I expected a funnier trailer. Still have hope though.
And calling a trailer where a character acts all funny because she took some medicine a \”breath of fresh air\” tells me you normally stay clear of the average comedy trailer.
