“It’s about a guy who’s stressed out and monster comes out of his ass and kills the things that are stressing him out and goes back up his ass,” Ken Marino told us about his new upcoming horror comedy, “Bad Milo” at SXSW 2013. “It’s good clean, butt fun.” Hmm, how can you go wrong there? Directed by Jacob Vaughn (an short filmmaker and assistant editor on the Duplass Brothers‘ “Cyrus” and “Jeff, Who Lives at Home“), “Bad Milo” co-stars Gillian Jacob (“Community”), Peter Stormare, Stephen Root, Mary Kay Place and Patrick Warburton, and it’s about exactly what Marino said it was: a monster living up a dude’s butt.
A horror comedy, a trailer has arrived and it’s pretty damn funny, especially if you’re a fan of Marino’s past works, both as a lead (“Burning Love”) or a wickedly funny supporting star (“Childrens Hospital,” “Party Down,” “Wainy Days,” “Wanderlust,” “Wet Hot American Summer,” or even going back to his early days on MTV‘s “The State”).
Here’s the “official” synopsis, if Marino’s only little explanation doesn’t suffice.
Duncan’s (Ken Marino) life is a real pain in the ass. Tormented by a manipulative, crooked boss (Patrick Warburton), a nagging mother (Mary Kay Place), a deadbeat new age dad (Stephen Root), and a sweet, yet pressuring, wife (Gillian Jacobs), his mounting stress starts to trigger an insufferable gastrointestinal reaction.
Out of ideas and at the end of his rope, Duncan seeks the help of a hypnotherapist (Peter Stormare), who helps him discover the root of his unusual stomach pain: a pintsized demon living in his intestine that, triggered by excessive anxiety, forces its way out and slaughters the people who have angered him. Out of fear that his intestinal gremlin may target its wrath on the wrong person, Duncan attempts to befriend it, naming it Milo and indulging it to keep its seemingly insatiable appetite at bay.
This one looks like a blast, so we can’t wait. Magnolia Pictures will release “Bad Milo” early on iTunes/On Demand August 29th and in theaters October 4th.
