To say that we’ve been looking forward to Jonathan Glazer‘s “Under The Skin” would be an understatement. The filmmaker made his name with music videos, before turning to the feature film world, dropping his sizzling debut “Sexy Beast” in 2000, followed four years later by “Birth,” which, in this writer’s opinion, is one of the best films of the 2000s. The wait has been a bit longer for Glazer’s sci-fi effort “Under The Skin,” which has taken its time from filming through post-production, but it looks like patience has paid off.
While reviews out of Telluride have been mixed, we’re not so worried, mostly because that was the same reception that greeted “Birth” and moreover, our man on the ground was effusive in his praise. Scarlett Johnasson leads the pic as an alien who makes human men her prey, seducing them with her sexuality and then killing them, but she soon grows a conscience about her actions. Really, this is a movie that seems not much driven by plot as by ideas and moods, and Johansson is said to give a first rate turn with our man out of Telluride stating she is” perfectly cast, being able to shift from blank alien mode to kittenish seduction without ever letting you see the switch being turned on or off.”
Also described as “horror with a heart,” this is one the rest of The Playlist team are eager to catch up with. For now, the fairly stunning teaser trailer below will have to hold us for now. [The Guardian]
not working for me but I like SJ, at least for being a leading lady with actual curves (meat) instead of tips (bones)
Jonathan Glazer needs to increase his output like tenfold.
FFFFFuck this looks awesome. I'm watching the new Sexy Beast blu-ray now and I'd love some new Jonathan Glazer in my life.
OH DEAR LORD, AWESOME. This movie gonna be strong, and Scarlett's performance is WONDERFUL. I'm really, really excited now. I love when Scarlett play characters like that. She can be so deep. Argh, so in love with her.
looks awesome!! I can tell SJ will act up a storm and blow us all away. Glazer is such a cool director also
Just got my ticket for this today at TIFF, now I cant wait to see it.
And that's how you make a trailer!
looks like a future cult classic
It looks so twisted! I'll be watching it as your review was posite and I loved 'Birth'!
Big fan of Scarlett Johnasson so I know I won't be disappointed. But more so I am just happy for her cause she deserves a juicy starring turn and much more of them. I just think producers still don't known what to do with her cause she embodies so many emotions and effects
