Watch: God Abandons Robert Pattinson In Clip From Cannes Thriller ‘The Rover’ Plus New Poster

The Rover

“I met Rob once before I even knew I was going to film ‘The Rover.’ He is among the 400,000 people I met in Los Angeles when ‘Animal Kingdom‘ came out there. (Laughing) I knew nothing about him, I hadn’t seen the Twilight movie – Still haven’t seen them, by the way. However, some of my friends had told me he was an interesting guy,” director David Michod told Premiere magazine (via Robert Pattinson 360). “I was impressed by his intelligence, his energy, but that day, I was especially struck by his face. I thought I was going to come face to face with one of those young trendy guys whose beauty is boring, but his mug is fascinating, totally unique. Then, when we began casting for the film, I saw a lot of actors, some very well-known, but Rob’s tests were magnificent and very moving. And what was important to me, he really wanted to do the film, you could see it.”

And perhaps you can get that sense too, with the first clip from the dropping online today, as its Cannes Film Festival debut creeps closer and closer. Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce star in the film set ten years after the collapse of society, with little in the way of law and order. When Rey (Pattinson) is carjacked and left for dead, he falls into an uneasy partnership with loner Eric (Pearce), who helps him track the down the gang of thieves. And as you’ll see in this clip, there isn’t much hope out there in the Australian outback.

“The Rover” hits theatres on June 20th. Watch below and check out the Australian poster. [Indiewire/Pattinson Art Work/BAD]

  1. This movie looks interesting. I love Robert P in Water for Elephants, I'm not even going to talk about Twilight, those were craptastic but my teenage daughter loved them, and since that is the genera they were going for so I guess it worked. I also remember him in Harry Potter. I'm finding this movie choice to be interesting. What other film does he have at Cannes?

  2. Funny when Robert Pattinson was in Harry Potter, he was the man and a really good actor that he was the Star of Tomorrow in the UK. But Twilight haters have made him out to be something "other" as if he suddenly can't act just because they hate Twilight. What Twilight fans and fans of Robert know is that he was that good and is that good and with the films he has forthcoming, he's showing the world that he's that good.

If Guy Pierce says he's that good, then what makes you think you amateur nobody internet comment trolls anyone cares what you think?

The film looks amazing. Rob is playing his part. Sounds authentic. Can't wait to see it. Good luck at Cannes.

  3. This looks like a very good film and to be picked for Cannes means it is being held in very high esteem by the film industry. Guy is an amazing actor and Robert P's career is going from strength to strength as many renowned directors are queuing up to work with him. He must be doing something right as he certainly wasn't hired for his looks in the this film as he is covered in grime in most of the clips I've seen. I hope this film does well on the Croisette as Guy certainly deserves more accolades than he has been given in the past and Robert deserves credit for his support of independent film.

  4. Wait- what is this accent? The hell?! Anyway, he's a non-factor… hoping this is the Guy Pearce's film. (also- how many comments will this article get? You guys truly outdid yourselves with the last Robby P clickbait).

  5. his mug is fascinating… told ya so:)
Guy and Rob duo is amazing! Guy looks and sounds so intimidating and wild while Rob is vulnerable, fragile and so human. from what i see in some scene his character learns to stand for what is right in the end, i guess we'll see different Rey after all. looking forward to seeing The Rover.
I love all these dramatic titles wherever Rob is involved : G-d abandon RP in clip… lol

  6. Ahhhhhhh, this looks fantastic! Pearce is so ruthless and poor Pattinson, he plays vulnerable very well. Can't wait to see how their relationship evolves. You just know someone is going to die in the end. I'm rooting for the evil brother who abandoned Rey.

  7. Just wanted to let you know that your film synopsis is incorrect. The character Rey is not carjacked, but rather is one of the carjackers. It's Eric's vehicle that is stolen, and Rey is left behind when he is injured is his getaway. Rey helps Eric track down his car. Love the pre-release shine The Rover is garnering though. Looking forward to this one.
