Following hot on the heels of its splashy world premiere at the AFI Film Festival over the weekend, a brand new trailer for Steven Soderbergh's "Haywire" has landed and it very literally kicks ass.
You know the story by now. MMA fighter Gina Carano leads the picture written by Lem Dobbs, as a former CIA operative betrayed by her colleagues who goes on a mission of vengeance. And, yeah, she's going to be leaving quite a few broken bones and bodies in her wake. This quick new trailer is mostly highlighted by the showdown between Carano and Michael Fassbender, who doesn't end up leaving that hotel room and sustained a few bruises during the shoot.
“I remember it clearly,” Fassbender tells EW. “She is supposed to pick up a vase and it breaks away, and the stunt guy said, ‘She’s going to grab it and hit you on the side of the head. But the one thing that’s important as she swings toward your head is you don’t look at her. You turn your head away and take the hit.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got it.’”
“Of course, Gina picked up the vase and I looked right at it,” Fassbender continues. “It was like a camera bulb had gone off,” he said about the brief pain he suffered at her hands.
Our review from AFI describes the film as a mashup between John Le Carré, Donnie Yen and Michaelangelo Antonioni and if that's not enough to get your ass in the seat, we don't know what is. "Haywire" opens on January 20th. You can watch the trailer over at EW or check out the embed below.
