While sexist super-dorks are being rightly called out for whining about the “Ghostbusters” reboot simply for the fact that it has *gasp* women in the lead roles, it should be said that the movie, observed objectively, still doesn’t look very good. So far, it seems like the prime example of the difficulties of trying to revive a franchise, but being holden to referencing the familiar tropes of the brand in order to appease audiences that it won’t be too different. So yes, Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man are here, along with the old theme song, and with other elements – but maybe that’s just for marketing purposes?

Well, a new international trailer has arrived offering some more new footage, and if anything, it proves the film’s leading quartet may just be the picture’s saving grace. While I’m not quite sold on the story, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones look at be doing what we’d expect, while Kate McKinnon seems to be stealing every moment she’s on screen. They all may just be the secret ingredient to the success of the picture, and once again proving Paul Feig’s instincts for choosing funny women to lead his movies.
“Ghostbusters” opens on July 15th. Watch the trailer below.
