Luke Scott has been slowly following in his famous father, Ridley Scott‘s, footsteps. Mostly known for his work in the world of commercials, he created some minor buzz with his sci-fi short “Loom” a few years back, and now he’s diving into his first feature film with “Morgan.” With his Dad making the grandaddy of sci-fi movies with “Blade Runner,” Scott has some big shoes to fill, but he certainly isn’t lacking in some strong collaborators to help make his mark.
Kate Mara (who had a role in “The Martian“), “The Witch” star Anya Taylor-Joy and Paul Giamatti all feature in the film that revolves around a corporate risk-management consultant who is called to investigate a newly evolving artificial intelligence. And the picture will be grappling with some big themes.
“What ‘Morgan’ really alludes to is human beings becoming, in a sense, the creator. Not in a traditional religious sense, but an idea that we have the capabilities to become our own creator. And what I suspect could happen — we’ve seen it in all these movies, whether it’s ‘Frankenstein‘ or ‘Metropolis‘ — it’s the creation of a being that is greater than the creator,” Scott told EW.
“Morgan” opens on September 2nd. Watch the new trailer above.
