Whenever Woody Allen gets in that old timey spirit, the results tend to be quite good. "Purple Rose Of Cairo" and "Midnight In Paris" are the highlights of his trips back in time, and his latest film, "Café Society," looks to land in the sweet spot between the two.

Starring Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Blake Lively, Parker Posey and Steve Carell, and with lensing by the legendary cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, the story centers on a young man who arrives in Hollywood during the 1930s hoping to work in the film industry, falls in love and finds himself swept up in the vibrant café society that defined the spirit of the age. While the Coens‘ trip back to the classic Hollywood era "Hail, Caesar!" earlier this year has proved a bit disappointing, here’s hoping Allen gets a better grip as such.
“Café Society” opens at the Cannes Film Festival with an Out of Competition screening and will be released in cinemas through Amazon. Watch below.
If you enjoy watching Jesse E. do his Woody Allen impression for 90 minutes, you might like this. Me, not so much. Looks like typical Woody material, not many laughs in the trailer, seems like recycling things we\’ve seen before. So formulaic.

I think Woody Allen\’s peak is behind him. Blue Jasmine is his last masterpiece. Cafe Society does look like Hail Caesar, which I found incredibly bad. Still Cafe Society may be worth a watch on Amazon.

Oooh, a movie with Kristen Stewart and the male version of Kristen Stewart made by Woody Allen. Count me out. What a pretentious, unattractive cast, with the exception of Blake Lively, who couldn\’t look bad in a potato sack. I see Stewart didn\’t bother developing a voice or accent for her character yet again. She\’s so one-dimensional it\’s crazy.
I haven\’t watched \’Hail, Caesar!\’ yet, unfortunately, but I can\’t wait to watch it. And about \’Café\’… When will it be released? No date yet?

Are you deaf, Talia? Jesse Eisengberg is doing a Woody Allen imitation, that\’s not his normal voice at all. Stewart is singled out for not doing any work on developing a character because she\’s the critic\’s favorite and yet has done nothing to demonstrate any range or character development. She never modulates her voice of uses an accent for any character she\’s ever played, she just plays herself over and over. That\’s not even acting. She herself has admitted she plays different versions of herself, she can\’t develop a real character the way Meryl Streep for example can.
Oh, ok, so now you need an accent to truly be acting and playing a character. Got it. She had about one line in this trailer, but you go ahead and make yourself look stupid, yet again. She\’s already said this is a very light and buoyant character, so I suppose you think she acts like that in all of her films? You know, in the ones where she played such varied characters as a teenage stripper, an army recruit, an actress, an assistant, a writer in the future, etc., etc., etc. What accent did Steve Carrell create here? You do know that most actors say they look for something inside themselves to identify with when playing a character, yet somehow you\’re only scandalized when it\’s her. Cannes is going to be rough for you, isn\’t it, Truthy?

Kristen Stewart has had accents in Snow White and The Huntsman, The Yellow Handkerchief, Undertow…She modulates the register of her voice in On the Road and in The Runaways. She\’s just not over exaggerated with it. She\’s supposed to be a light and vibrant California girl in this movie. Why would she need an accent? She\’s from California. The truth is that it wouldn\’t matter if she came out and did an accent worthy of Meryl Streep, those who hate her would find some fault with it. Their hate for her doesn\’t have anything to do with what\’s actually occurring on the screen, or anything that has to do with her talent as an actress. They come here to insult her because they don\’t like her personally, which is stupid because they don\’t know her personally.
She also spoke with slurred speech in The Cake Eaters because her character had Friedrich\’s Ataxia. She does what she\’s supposed to do to portray her character. I\’m so tired of her ignorant haters. They REALLY need to grow up.
I don\’t like movies that are about Hollywood. Sunset Boulevard was the best of the lot. I\’m waiting for the ultimate Hollywood film: a feminist version of all the sexist complaints about Hollywood. That I will gladly pay to see.
Stewart can\’t do an accent like Streep, as the critics pointed out in SWATH. Her fake British accent came and went, she couldn\’t sustain it. Has anyone seen The Yellow Handkerchief or Undertow? I don\’t even know what those are. I\’ve never heard her modulate the tone of her voice, it\’s always the same flat monotone, that\’s what she\’s known for. If her fans can\’t distinguish that Jesse Eisenberg is not using his own voice, that might explain their rabid praise for her lack of talent.

I love it when bitter KStew fans can\’t conceal their jealousy. It\’s either Alicia Vikander or Jen Lawrence who they take out their frustration on. Sorry, honey, they
re just better actresses, more charismatic, warm, likeable and they have demonstrated range, something Stewart has never been able to do. Besides winning the Oscar and the SAG award, Vikander has won 56 other awards and has two prestigious films coming out this year, likely to earn her more nominations. If Stewart hadn\’t derailed her career back in 2012, she might have been offered some of the scripts Vikander gets. Don\’t feel too bad, Stewart is willing to work with accused pedophiles, so she will never be out of a job. Some actresses have higher standards than that.
