We may be in the age of the mega-budget tentpole with seemingly every blockbuster connecting and crossing over with each other in a Russian nesting doll-esque display of corporate synergy and marketing campaigns, but never underestimate the power that a cheap horror movie can have over audiences. That power created a franchise out of the honestly kind of boring “Paranormal Activity” and a surprise sleeper hit out of the Ethan Hawke-starring “The Purge,” and it’s that power that has led to a third horror found-footage omnibus film under the “V/H/S” banner. With its presentations to potential buyers at the Cannes Film Festival coming up, the film’s international trailer has been released (via Deadline) to amp up excitement worldwide.
Titled “V/H/S: Viral”—for now at least, since the previous film went through a title change between inception and final release—the omnibus film will feature segments from “Timecrimes” director Nacho Vigalondo, “The Apparition” director Todd Lincoln, “The Birds Of Anger” director Gregg Bishop, “Resolution” duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead and the rising horror filmmaker Marcel Sarmiento. The trailer is heavy on footage from the previous two films but it does give a good NSFW glimpse at the new film, which promises “to go viral.” Yeah, we don’t know what that means either but it looks like it’ll sit very nicely next to the previous entries in a less-than-sober marathon this Halloween.
Watch the trailer below.
None of the directors interest me like they did in the first two films. Hopefully its still decent.
The plot synopses for the segments of this one don't do a lot to make it seem interesting but I assumed the same thing about the second film's segments and some of them were better than the blurbs let on.
