What if you could jump back through time to say the perfect line, make a better first impression or perform better in the sack? That’s the ambitious central premise of “About Time,” the latest from “Love Actually” writer/director Richard Curtis, that takes the traditional rom-com and adds a little does of time travel in for good measures. Does it work? Well, let’s take a look at the first trailer…
Domnhall Gleeson stars as the time-jumping lad, who learns from his father (Bill Nighy) that all he has to do to barrel through time is stand in a closet, close his eyes and think about it….yeah, this isn’t hard sci-fi… And so with this great power, what does he decide to do? Pursue the perfect relationship with Rachel McAdams and well, we can’t blame him. But aside from the unique conceit, everything else seems about standard for the genre with missed connections, disappointments, grand romantic gestures and Lessons Learned. Looks like a diverting trifle, though not much more.
“About Time” opens on Septmeber 6th in the UK and November 1st in the US. Watch below. [HeyUGuys]
