It seems there are very few secrets in Hollywood these days, as we live in a time when even the plot points of major blockbusters seem to get spoiled weeks or months before release. But there are a few people who manage to keep a lid on their projects––Christopher Nolan is one of them, and J.J. Abrams is another. And the latter has a surprise up his sleeve for fans, an imminent "Cloverfield" spinoff titled, "10 Cloverfield Lane." The first trailer has arrived.
Originally announced as "Valencia," Paramount tells HitFix that during production, they had the idea to change the title of the movie starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman, and John Gallagher Jr. "We wanted to make it a blood relative of ‘Cloverfield.’ The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible,” they said. Well, the cat is now officially out of the bag, and here’s what the original synopsis had to say about the story:
The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar, and revolves around a young woman who wakes up in the cellar after a severe car accident and fears she has been abducted. Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.
Judging by the trailer, that still seems to be the plot, though it seems there are some big twists in store. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg ("Portal: No Escape"), produced by Abrams, and co-written by Damien Chazelle ("Whiplash"), "10 Cloverfield Lane" arrives on March 11th. Yep, in just three months.
