Still wincing from keeping Khan secret in "Star Trek Into Darkness" — which both Damon Lindelof and J.J. Abrams recently admitted was a mistake — the franchise is hoping to rebound with "Star Trek Beyond." While exact plot details have been kept under wraps for now, there’s not the same level of double talk about the villain, mostly because we don’t really know the story. But the first trailer is here to a shine a little light on what’s coming.

The regular crew are back — Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin — joined by new franchise faces, Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella, for the latest adventure boldly directed by Justin Lin, who brings his experience helming four "Fast & Furious" movies to the table. So yes, say goodbye to Abrams’ lens flare.
Will this be the kick in the pants the series needs to bring it back on track after the dismal ‘Darkness‘? Find out on July 22, 2016.
Fast and Furious … iiiinnnnn spaaaaaace!!!
Yeah, I TOTALLY thought the music was off…
Justin Lin is Sulu to Abrams\’s Kirk.
Prediction: The next trailer will have a completely different tone and will be way more like the trailers for the first two films. This one has not gone down well.
This \’new Star Trek\’ is really made for the masses, dumbed down and rubbish. As a fan it is difficult to bear that Paramount has gone in this direction with the Premiere Sci-Fi franchise. No surprise really…money > quality.
Well I for one can\’t wait. Watched all the ones with Shatner, and loved those, but really, really like Chris Pine as Kirk, but then of course I love Chris Pine in anything that he does. Good luck to all.
I see they bumped up the release of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, apparently.
Didn\’t the one with The Beastie Boys also end with a major protagonist jumping out of a vehicle as it flew off a cliff and somehow managing to stop his momentum with his bare hands at cliff\’s edge? Self-parody already?
Not liking the music,, I agree totally that it\’s a weird vibe, however looks like it\’s going be action packed..
Recalling a scene in 2009\’s "Star Trek" wherein Kirk as a kid is jamming to The Beastie Boys while taking a joy ride in someone else\’s car. But, I agree. It is totally a weird vibe for a Star Trek trailer.
What\’s with the music?
Yeah, I TOTALLY thought the music was off…
