Nicolas Winding Refn gained cult status with "Bronson" and "Valhalla Rising," made inroads into the mainstream with "Drive," and took a sideways turn with the divisive "Only God Forgives." So it’ll be interesting to see how his upcoming "The Neon Demon" will be received. And we’re about to find out.
Starring Elle Fanning, Jena Malone, Karl Glusman, Bella Heathcote, Abbey Lee, Desmond Harrington, Christina Hendricks and Keanu Reeves, the movie follows Jesse, an aspiring model who moves to Los Angeles, only to encounter a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has. It’s a Countess Bathory-inspired story horror flick, one that Refn says is about "vicious beauty.”
Watch the first trailer below. "The Neon Demon" opens in June via Amazon Studios.
Looks like another visually stunning effort that may suffer from a rather vacuous screenplay.
Hell yeah!!
To be honest i expected more…
I think I read an early draft but I actually really liked the screenplay. There was way more character development in it that most Refn films and quite a lot of black humor even. I\’m sure a lot of that got gutted during shooting but this still looks good, if not a little more self-serious in tone
not sure about NWR\’s gaudy new aesthetic… does he spend a lot of time in cheap massage establishments?
A master stylist.
Agree with Fere. Big letdown.
I just slapped myself in the face for watching this silly ridiculous trailer.
There\’s not a single film that I\’m anticipating more highly than this one, and this trailer has me even more excited now. NWR knows what he is doing, and I think this may even end up being his best film yet. Plus, well, Elle Fanning.
So, like "Black Swan" but with fashion models.
