With Edward Snowden still making headlines, the role of government whistleblowers continues to be debated from coffee shops all the way to the White House. Are these people serving the greater good by exposing secret operations or do they put the country irreparably in harm’s way from our enemies? Well, the question will be debated once again with the first trailer for “Kill The Messenger.”
Directed by “Homeland” helmer Michael Cuesta and starring Jeremy Renner, this is based on a true story, following the journalist Gary Webb, who exposed the CIA’s involvement and knowledge of the smuggling of cocaine into the United States. Webb’s publications soon found him put in the crosshairs of the agency who threatened to ruin his life and career.
It’s powerful stuff, and with a fall release date, a potential Oscar contender. Watch below. “Kill The Messenger” opens on October 10th.
I really hope this film does this man justice. This man exposed a little known fact that still hurts our society today, courtesy of the United States Federal Government.
Good to see Cuesta and Renner back together again (Twelve and Holding). This looks powerful!
This looks great … glad to see Cuesta back in features (L.I.E.).
Gary Webb's investigative journalism and ultimate newspaper publication of the CIA's involvement in the Southern California cocaine traffic during the 80's and 90's is a far cry from Snowden or Wikileaks. His story is one of the reasons we see very little true investigative journalism into today's American culture. Thankfully his story will finally be told.
This looks really good and Renner looks particularly excellent. I am definitely keeping this one on my radar.
This could be a really good film.
looks solid, renner looks great
