Yes, "Ouija" is a horror movie based on the official board game, which is why Hasbro is listed as one of the production companies. And as with most things cinematically associated with that brand ("G.I. Joe," "Transformers"), the result is pretty efficiently bland as the first trailer suggests.
Olivia Cooke takes the lead role in this one, which tells the frightening story of what happens when a bunch of people sit around a table and watch a triangle move towards letters ominously. Am I being a bit glib? Well, yes, but seriously this looks about one thousand other, similarly low-priced horror movies with young actors, jump scares and flashy editing. And yet, audiences do seem to have an appetite for this stuff time and again.
