Watch: First Trailer For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Assembles New Superhero Team

Guardians Of The Galaxy

So, a superhero movie with a raccoon and talking tree among the team, many have said (including us) that “Guardians Of The Galaxy” represents the biggest roll of the dice Marvel has taken to date. Just don’t tell that to director James Gunn. “I don’t think it’s the riskiest Marvel property,” he told Total Film. “I think ‘Iron Man‘ was by far the riskiest. It was a film company that didn’t have much, raising money to make a film based on a property that wasn’t that much more well known than ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ So I think it’s not even close to the riskiest Marvel property.” Of course, Tony Stark now has three standalone movies to his name and the question is, can ‘Guardians’ reach that level of success?

Well, the first trailer for the film has arrived, and you can’t argue the crew it has assembled. Chris Pratt takes the lead role, with Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista in support, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, while Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro round things out. Eclectic? Sure. But also that talent is pretty great. But whether or not audiences will roll with the premise remains to be seen. Here’s the official synopsis:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

Oh yeah, one thing not to expect in ‘Guardians’? Stan Lee. The famed comic book legend will not be making a pit stop as is routine for the Marvel movies. “This is the one group I didn’t create,” Lee said in an interview with DweebCast. “I didn’t write ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ I’m not even sure who they all are!” Well, Marvel is hoping after this trailer, America is familiar with this comic team.

“Guardians Of The Galaxy” opens on August 1st. Watch below.

  1. Am I the only one who sees Firefly in this. The lead even dresses like Nathan Fillian did. Rag tag criminals save the universe. Not to mention the obvious Indiana Jones reference. Could be ok but not very original.

  2. After reading the article, the one thing still comes to mind.

"This is the one group I didn't create,"
Is it me or does Stan Lee expectations towards this team of heros is rather low, since he didn't create it. Or, have not much faith towards it. …. .. .
    >.> anyway I am not gonna judge until I seen the movie.

  3. "Comic" team???
Clearly Kevin you've never read a comic.
Therefore you have as much clout to comment on this movie as a garbage man does on quantum physics.
In the comics these characters jest but are as hard core as "The Avenger's".
To assert this movie is a comedy only lends to the humor of your inept, uninformed writing.
Do your research before writing articles. Is it laziness Kevin?

  4. I think this looks great, loving the vibe from the trailer, it feels like it's gonna be a lot of fun. Looking forward to seeing it. Chris Pratt deserves a shot at stardom, I hope he grabs it with both hands. Star Lord could be the role of a lifetime, a funny, goofy Han Solo.

  5. Large cast, but that is not going to save this, unless the kids all go.
I really don't think Chris Pratt is a leading man, unfortunately; and they should have switched and swapped cooper and pratt's roles.
